stormdog: (Geek)
I really should have known better than to drink a litre of RC Cola after being essentially off caffeine for multiple years. But it was free with the pizza that [livejournal.com profile] tincrash and Tony ordered, and I so rarely see RC. It's easily my favorite caffeinated beverage. But... *twitch* *twitch* I don't think I'll be doing that again soon.

I'm in Tin's room working on process documentation for the helpdesk. More on the reason for that later, but it's going pretty well. I don't think I'm going to have the sort of comprehensive knowledgebase that I was hoping to, but I hope it will be impressive anyway. I want to justify the laptop I assigned to myself so I could work on it over the weekend. Of course, I forgot to bring a power supply for it, but I'm making do.

[livejournal.com profile] wooisme is out with the other two members of present company watching a few movies while I work here and occasionally drop in to join in intereseting conversation. This isn't too bad. I'm missing the montly board game night that some of my parents' gaming group have started, but Moira and I have set aside time to go next month.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] posicat pointing me in the right direction, I'm doing the database of process documentation as a wiki that I'm hosting on my server for the moment. I can access it via HTTP and update it from anywhere. This thing is so cool! I'm using UseMod wiki, which, while not as feature-packed and robust as MediaWiki, is also simple enough that I was able to figure out how to set it up over the course of one evening. It's a single Perl script, so I just had to install the Perl backend on my server, configure the script, and it's up and running. I'd like to get MediaWiki going to at some point, but I think that's going to require a significant amount of experimentation time to get running.

If you hadn't noticed, I'm on a bit of a Neil Young streak lately. I just grabbed 24 of his albums and have been going through them as I work over the last week or so. Who knew that the Godfather of Grunge did techno? I like it!

I guess that's about it for now. 'Till later!
