Mar. 5th, 2007 10:47 pmMmmm. Forty five minute shower. Freshly cleaned hair. Moroccan ultra-rich cream oil body wash. Mrrrrrffffl. I love good foamy body wash.
Blue Man Group was pretty neat. It didn't totally blow me away, but the more I think about the originality of the musical instruments in the show, the more they've been sitting in the back of my mind. Drumbone is going to be in my head for some time. I loved too the visual effect of light beaming up through a transparent drum head and the colored liquid being poured onto it fountaining up into the air as drumsticks beat against it in another number they did. Most importantly, I think, the show has had the effect of making me want to go and make some music. I've always drummed on everything around me from time to time, and I've been finding myself doing that a little more than usual yesterday afternoon and today. I hear the tones of the half sheet of plywood that makes up my workbench surface reverberate under my keyboard as I write this and it makes me think of setting a video of some of the random things I do around the computer room to tonally matched rhythmic percussion, sort of like the way the things the blue men do are backed up by a three piece electric band once they get going. The high notes of the middle keys mesh with the flatter, slightly lower tone of the spacebar and the quick staccato of the backspace key as I delete a misphrased section of a sentence. The rhythm of my fingers as I beat out various words and phrases changes from slower and steady across less commonly used letter sequences to a sprinting dash through groups like 'ous', 'ure' or 'ing'. I love drums. I wish I had a chance to sit down with them and learn to play them. I wonder where Andrea's little one went. It's in the basement somewhere, I'm sure.
I used to think all the time about taking sounds I find in abandoned buildings and putting them together into some found music compositions. I'm not sure what kind of recording hardware I'd need for something like that though. Probably something pretty expensive.
I have a dog lying on top of my feet as I kneel at my computer and write. That makes me happy.
There's another group going to Gary for some urban spelunking this weekend, but I'm going to be on a mini vacation in Dodgeville. I've been promising for months to take Andrea out to the Don Q Inn, and this weekend's it! I can't wait for the week to be over.
I have the Monday after off too. I'm going to use that to get a little more cleaning done and go to see my doctor about the persistent cough I've had for a month or so. I've been clearing my throat and coughing all the time at work; it feels like there's something in my chest or in my throat. Not constantly, but consistently. Making sure it's nothing serious and maybe even getting it taken care of will make me feel better. It's starting to be hard on my voice!
I'm looking forward to going down to visit
polymorphism the weekend after too. (By the way
polymorphism, what is it that's wrong with your computer? Andrea didn't give me any symptoms to base a diagnosis on, but I figured if it sounds like something I have parts and/or software for, I'll be more than happy to bring them with.)
I guess that's it. 'Till later!
