stormdog: (Geek)
Can anyone use a 1000-base FX card I just pulled out of a Compaq Prolient ML530? For that matter, can anyone use the shell of a Compaq Proliant ML530? It's the rolling tower form factor, not the rack mount. It's completely stripped and will be going back to where I work for disposal unless someone wants the chassis.

I also have a Smart Array 5300 64-bit PCI quad channel SCSI controller with a 128MB registered DIMM on board that I'd take twenty bucks for from an interested party who had a use for it. Even really high-end SCSI controllers like that are dirt-cheap on Ebay. I think everyone must be going to SATA at this point. I have a quad-channel Adaptec SCSI controller floating around that I'd take a similar amount for. Let me know if you're interested.

Garage is almost clean!

[livejournal.com profile] tybis, are you still interested in that Proliant ML570 with the quad PIII Xeons? It's got a lot of hard drives in it; I think I'd take $300 for it plus delivery. (Delivery for local folks only, unless you include a night of room and board and an excuse for a road trip! *grins*) If not, let me know and I'll try to find somewhere else to sell it. (Speaking of which, is anyone interested if Tybis decides to pass?)

This article is really interesting. I'll have to look into this further, but I'm reconsidering my practice of exclusively buying compact fluorescents for lighting.

It seems a woman in Maine broke a CF lightbulb in her house. She knew they contain mercury, so she called Home Depot (where she bought the bulb) to ask about cleanup. They referred her to poison control who referred her to the Maine department of the EPA. As a result of their investigation, the room has been sealed off and she is looking at a $2000 mercury abatement fee to clean it up. She's working on saving up the money now.

I don't have enough knowledge of the substance involved to know for sure, but it seems like that may be something of an over reaction. Still, I think we owe it to ourselves to look into the ramifications of using CF lighting instead of incandescent.

I wonder if LED manufacture involves mercury. I'll be all over LED lighting when it becomes available, as long as it isn't worse, environmentally speaking, then the other options.

The camera I was watching went for a bit more than I was willing to pay. That's okay; there are three or four more ending tomorrow.

Andrea and I went out for food with my parents, brothers (and girlfriend) and my grandparents. I talked to my brothers and Lara and it looks like they're all interested in coming to Gary with me on the 13th of next month. I should have my camera by then! That will be great!

I thought perhaps a few more people might like to go. How about [livejournal.com profile] posicat, [livejournal.com profile] tybis, and/or [livejournal.com profile] vurtsnake? Scott, I think you have Sundays off, right? Wha'dya say? I figure four people (myself, two brothers, and my brother Jim's girlfriend) is enough for a trip, but more would be better!

Oh, the guy who wanted my TRS 80 and modems finally picked them up today. Yay! Wow, he did not look like a geek. Nearly shaved head and a longish pointy goatee. Rather a punk rock sort of look. He sure was excited to get his hands on that hardware though!
