stormdog: (Geek)
I have a server at home with a dual PIII Xeon motherboard. It's got one PIII Xeon 1Ghz processor on it. I also have two PIII Xeon 866Mhz that I'd like to drop in instead.

The second processor slot requires a VRM. Now, I have a VRM that I scavenged from a dual PIII non-xeon computer. My question is, will that work as a VRM for a Xeon processor, or do I have to find a different one that's specifically made for a Xeon chip?

My Kinesis is back! I'm so happy! Hopefully the wrist soreness and tennis elbow I've been developing will go away. It looks like they replaced the keywells on both side of the board with new ones. I can tell the difference in the springs.

I've been putting together a list of things I need to do this weekend. Let's see:

  • Bring old oil from last year to the dump to be recycled.
  • Chage the truck's oil.
  • Haul boxes back to the post office.
  • Deposit money for my camera into the bank.
  • Perhaps even buy a camera! (I really want one before going to the Forevertron again.
  • Further organization of the garage.
  • Catch up on laundry.

I was going to do laundry and more general cleanup last night, but after lying down in bed around eight o' clock 'for just a little while' to cuddle up with my mate, I fell asleep. I remember waking up once or twice, briefly, when animals were stirring, but I didn't actually get out of bed again until ten after six. I guess I needed some sleep.

Work has been really quiet these last couple of days. My team lead even let me leave early on Wednesday. I used the extra hour to drop off a load of Betamax tapes that had been claimed by someone on Freecycle who lives about five minutes from where I work. The house was impressive. It was fairly new construction, and quite large, almost a mcmansion. The little I could see of the inside while waiting at the door spoke of the subdivision version of comfortable wealth. And cats. Cats are always a good sign.

Though the gentleman I talked to looked like he was in his sixties or seventies and met me with a grumpy "Who are you?" at the door, when I told him I was bearing obsolete media, he swiftly brightened up. When I opened up the tailgate of the truck and he saw four boxes full of Betamax, he even exclaimed "Wow!" in a tone that you usually only hear in the voice of people much younger. I think I like him.

After that, I drove over to [livejournal.com profile] posicat's place to meet up with him and my wallet. See, my wallet had been missing since going to The Spot for malts on Saturday night. Andrea and I had figured out by Wednesday that the most likely spot for it to be was Posi's van. As it turned out, it was, and very fortunately so. I realized, after leaving for work that day, that I didn't have enough gas in the truck to get to work and back. The kind [livejournal.com profile] serinthia lent me ten bucks to make sure I didn't get stranded.

So after I was reunited with my wallet, Posi and I worked in installing the bluetooth thingy that he'd picked for his van. We didn't quite get it mounted where he wanted it, but he probably has by now. *smiles* The end result is really cool. He can keep his phone in his pocket and after tying it in with the bluetooth thingy, he can call people via voice commands and talk to them through the microphone he's mounting above the driver's seat, all without touching his phone or dealing with a headset. It feel so sci-fi! Makes me want to do some kind of upgrading to my truck; just don't know what yet.

And then, we went out for Chinese buffet. 'Cause, you know, you just gotta.
