What the hell is wrong with the server guys here? For an hour now, there's been an IM phishing scam being distrubited via messages being sent by infected computers asking that people click a link and log in to a site. I figure it's probably an account hijacker.

We have yet to see any kind of mass notification and/or warning about it from the server guys, despite getting hammered with questions and notes from people who either clicked it and logged in or want to report something fishy. C'mon guys, seriously; it takes less than a minute to write a note, direct it to the everyone list, and hit 'send'.

But they don't, so I'm just sitting here with a form letter emailing people back. Yes, this appears to be a virus. Please do not click links from suspicious looking IMs, you dumbshit. Bleah bleah bleah. This is pathetic.

Faire was wonderful yesterday. I have some pictures that are keeping me happy today as I look at them from time to time. That plus the thought that Andrea and I are going to work on my rèsumè tonight after I clean the bathroom.

And now, even better; at three o' clock eastern today, the server boys are having a conference call. At the conclusion of that call, the password of every single person in my company, all nine hundred plus of them, is going to be expired and they'll be forced to change. We're going to get hammered. With a hydraulic pile driver.

My team lead just pointed out that that's going to include people like our CEO, who's password hasn't changed ever.

I keep thinking about buying a Roomba when I see them on Woot. It seems like they'd save a non-trivial amount of time and are just a neat geeky sort of thing to have. I know that they have some trouble with inside corners (I was reading some reviews and that seems to be the only real problem they have), and I wonder how well it would do in my house. I have a large dog who sheds in proportion to his size, and a cat. We have short berber carpet; no deep pile stuff to get in the way.

Do any of you have one? Want to share your experiences?

Pictures from faire, the theater, and Lake Geneva are coming soon!

It's so nice to be home. I'm going to start doing the cleaning that I didn't have time for last weekend and won't have time for this weekend; we have to road-trip for Andrea's brother's wedding out Michigan way.

My sweetie and I drove out to Lake Geneva for dinner on Friday to celebrate our anniversary. The date was actually Wednesday, but we wanted a little more time to go out for an evening than a work day would permit.

I looked for a restaurant to go to during the day at work and we settled on Carvetti's, a pleasant enough bar and restaurant with a fenced in outdoor patio that we ate on. The blue cheese and mushroom burger I devoured was fantastic; Andrea had a salad with at least as much blue cheese as my burger. The only complaint we had was that our waitress seemed to abandon us after we finished our food. We had to walk up to the outdoor bar to pay the bill.

After dinner, we walked around downtown Lake Geneva for an hour or two. It really is a beautiful place at night. I was never very interested in general city photography; then I saw the results of my first night-pictures shot there a couple months ago and they really changed my mind. Lake Geneva has a very active downtown on the weekends, and the milling people, electric-bright boats, laughing kids splashing in the dark water of the beach, and brilliant reds and yellows of old neon really jump out at me from the pictures I've taken there.

Would you like to see a few of them? )
