Oct. 7th, 2007 07:50 pmI'm going to start sorting out a few pictures to post from the weekend. But in the meantime, I am going to put my Proliant ML 570 on Craig's List this week after I get the drives wiped, so here's your last chance to express interest.
It is:
Compaq Proliant ML570, non-rackmount form factor, though you can get a rackmount kit for it.
Pentium III Xeon 700 x4
2560MB of RAM
Three installed power supplies plus an extra spare
Smart Array 5300 hardware RAID controller (may need to have the backup battery replaced, but works fine as is and supports RAID 0,1, and 5. Full specs here. This is a very nice 64 bit PCI hardware SCSI RAID card.
Installed in the 12 hot-swappable drive bays are:
8 36.4 GB 10,000 RPM SCSI drives
2 18.2 GB 10,000 RPM SCSI drives
2 9.1 GB 10,000 RPM SCSI drives
(Total storage space, without RAIDing: 345.8 GB)
For a friend, I can throw in some extra 9.1 GB drives if you need them. They have the sleds that fit this server already. Failing that, you can just have some extra sleds.
This box has an OEM license for Windows 2000 server, but I have had it running 2000 Advanced Server and I'm sure it would handle most flavors of 2003 server just fine as I'm running that on a machine that's a single 1ghz Pentium III Xeon quite well.
If you have any interest, let me know and make me an offer. I'd be happy to trade for something interesting too. You should be aware that:
*It's pretty big (think mini-fridge but deeper and narrower)
*If you run this thing during the winter, you don't have to worry about heating your house
*It has one bad fan that the BIOS complains about (auxiliary power supply fan number 3) but it will run without it. I think the fans are easily replaceable modular units that you can often find on Ebay.)
*It has a big NASA sticker on the side that I yoinked from a free-stuff table at some con somewhere.
I also have an extra wide ATX computer case with 16 front accessible 5 and a quarter bays in side by side stacks of eight. If you're interested, let me know before I scrap it this week.
