(no subject)

I have selected, edited, and resized weekend pictures on the way to work; now I just have to post them. Maybe at lunch. I also created a 3840 x 1024 picture of water flowing over the dam just outside of Oregon, Illinois to use as wall paper on my three monitor system at work. That came out kind of nifty!

I created a little BMP file with a a bunch of superimposed rectangles measuring standard screen dimensions at 4:3 aspect ratio and added a couple 3:2 (photograph-ratio) rectangles on top of those. I labelled them all with size in pixels and aspect ratio. I'm going to use it as I go through photos and think about resizing them for use in various places.

I have a 'talk' upcoming with my prospective new manager today at 3:00. I'm tying to think of everything I want to ask him about the new position so I get all the info I need to decide and so I sound like I've thought this out. My current manager will support me changing roles if I decide I want to and it looks like a good fit. I'm sure I'll write about how the talk went later tonight.

I'm thinking about getting an account on Flickr or something like that. Honestly; what good does it do? I'm not even the slightest bit familiar with the service apart from knowing that it's a picture hosting thing. What does it do for you and are there similar services, better or different, out there?

I just talked to the possible new boss for twenty minutes and feel like a complete idiot, as I always do after getting off of the phone. We talked about training and travel and what, more specifically, I'd be doing.

The last thing on my page of notes to ask about was salary. But I didn't. I don't know if I should have or not. I probably should have. Especially when I think the salary might be a deciding factor. But I didn't.

I need to decide by later this week whether I'm seriously interested in this or not. I'm going to be talking to a couple other people on this new team as well to get their impressions of the work and to be interviewed by them.

I'm terribly, terribly nervous about all of this.

I think I may talk to my current manager and explain that, while I really would prefer to avoid the travel if I can, I also want to make some advances in my career path and see if he has a sense of what opportunities are going to be available here and whether we're going to have any additional people any time soon and if staffing would justify me moving to some kind of level two posiition.

I hate, hate dealing with this stuff.

On a lighter note, I have my most favoritest picture I have ever taken of my big goofy Akita set as my wallpaper on my laptop and that makes me happy. I also spent a few minutes of the company's time creating an animated GIF from seventeen pictures of posicat skipping a stone along the Oregon dam that I shot with my camera in motor-drive mode. I don't have a movie camera, but this is kind of cool. This is the first animated picture I have ever created and it was done with a very simple to use piece of freeware I found called Unfreezit. I may do more of these 'cause they're kind of silly-nifty.

Andrea and I got Kuma into the backseat of the KIA and left Kenosha a little after seven on Saturday morning, meeting up with posicat around eight. Posi attempted to introduce one of his cats to Kuma, but Recall was definitely not amused. Kuma was placidly interested, but Recall yowled all the way back up the stairs (Posi brought him down because Kuma wasn't up to climbing the three flights of stairs to his apartment).

We checked out a church rummage sale before leaving town and and Andrea found a shiny pair of slippers to replace the flip flops that, coincidentally, disintegrated on her in the parking lot.
