More crap about being sick. )

I also need to offer here my appreciation to [livejournal.com profile] moiracoon. She has been a godsend in spending her entire weekend tirelessly and cheerfully caring for me, making special trips to the grocery store for me, making food for me, and keeping me distracted by watching Babylon 5 with me. Without her, I really don't know how I would have tolerated the last week or so, and I am deeply, deeply grateful.

I'm working from home today as I await the results of another blood test. Apparently, the hospital that I went to for the ultrasound (being a different one than I usually go to; maybe they don't have an ultrasound or something) either didn't get the whole order for my lab work, or misread it, or spilled coffee on it or something, 'cause my hep screen didn't get done. I'm told that they will 'probably' have prelimary results on it by the end of the today, at which point I will at least have an idea about whether the doctor will let me go to work tomorrow, because my manager has said I need an ok before I come back in the office. I'm left to wonder whether anyone, really, anyone, whether it's hardware vendors, healthcare groups, government, or anyone else, has anything even vaguely resembling organizational efficiency. I'm leaning toward a 'no'.

In the meantime, I'm working from home as best I can on a laptop display and a CRT monitor while listing to the 'Brina cat song. What's the 'Brina cat song? That's the song that our gray cat-like ball of fluff sings as she wanders about the house looking for shiny things. It goes like this.

"I'm a little gray cat!
I'm not a little purple cat.
I'm not a little orange cat.
I'm a little gray cat!"

Don't tell her--if she found out I think she'd be embarrassed--but sometimes I sing along, quiet enough that she doesn't notice.

As I noted, I'm working from home today. I was on the phone with someone from work when there was a call on the other line. In the thought that it was the doctor's office, I called them after I finished.

I talked to the head nurse who had in fact tried to call me. She looked around while I was on the phone, but then couldn't find test results. After putting me on hold and looking for a time, she asked me to let her call back in a little while.

So she called back in five minutes or so to let me know that the reason she had really called was to confirm that I'd had the hep screen done because she hadn't seen it in the record. We confirmed that I really had been in to have the blood drawn for the test, and she told me that the test is uncommon enough that they do them together in batches on certain days. They'll run the test tomorrow and she'll call me then.

I am just boggled. I asked if I could go to work tomorrow and she said that she thought the doctor would have told me if he though I should be at home. So I'm going. They've been drowning without me, my team lead says, and I'm sure not giving up any more vacation days if I don't have to.

How do I feel? Eh; they asked me that at work too. Better. Very itchy, and my appetite isn't quite back yet, but at least I'm up and moving and not feeling like I'm going to lose my lunch continually. I'm down the better part of ten pounds since this all started too, though I don't recommend the method.
