vandringar keeps posting nifty pictures in his journal, I thought maybe I should throw a few up here and there too.
One of the great machines at The House on the Rock. The rotating cylinder at the bottom is a titanic version of the little studded control wheels you see in music boxes that strike chimes with their embedded studs. This one is controlling a fifteen or twenty foot tall arrangement of full-size stringed and brass instruments that are mechanically controlled and played. Though there's nothing here to serve as an indicator of scale, the cylinder is about six feet long and about two feet in diameter.

For those interested:
Canon 20D
28-80 f3.5-5.6 II
55mm focal length
1.6 second exposure at ISO 400
Little bit of sharpening in Photoshop and cropping in Irfanvew ('cause I haven't figured out how to crop efficiently in Photoshop yet!).
