Jan. 23rd, 2008 12:49 pmBad news: our manager has advised us that we're going to have to start allowing people to purchase non-standard hardware, both whole systems and other peripheral devices and, especially for executives, support them. There was a mess where our CEO was upset that Google desktop was causing problems on his computer and had made noises about firings for not providing 'world class support' because we couldn't support a third party app that even the creator of the software doesn't offer support on.
Good news: That means I get to have a desktop that doesn't fit our corporate standard and my manager will approve it. My new machine is going to be a Dell Precision workstation with the capability to support four monitors. Now if I can just get a few more widescreen monitors that have a tilt-capable stand so I can swing them 90 degrees and actually use the extra space, I'll be happy. Currently I have two 17" units and one 19"; all standard aspect ratio. The 19, though, is tilted 90° so I can see my entire folder listing in Outlook. I used to have a 20" widescreen that turned out to be for one the suits in another office so it went away. That, when swung vertical, took up nearly the entire vertical height between my desktop and the overhead bins above my desk. That was great.
Andrea got up early this morning and made doggy biscuits for me! (See, they're biscuits, and I'm a dog.) Thank you sweetie!!
