stormdog: (Geek)
I was soooo hoping that we'd get back from Posi's early enough for me to go find my first geocache. There's one a little less then a mile from my house. I printed out the coordinates, found my flashlight, put new batteries in my GPS, and even though it was getting pretty dark, set out on my bike with my 4D Maglight hanging from a belt loop.

Unfortunately, I had to turn around near the water treatment plant. It was just too dark to safely ride a bicycle. Maybe I'll be braver once I install the lights that I bought at Hobo a few weeks ago and haven't made it round to yet. It's looking like I'm really going to need to invest in some more rechargeable batteries if I'm going to continue pursuing these hobbies this summer.

I am so tired of dealing with Vista on this laptop. Seriously. Ever since I set up a bluetooth dialup connection to tether to my cell phone, Vista comes to a complete dead stop every five or ten minutes asking me what network I want to connect to and defaulting to the bluetooth connection. When I click cancel ('cause I'm already on a network you stupid machine), everything goes back to what it was doing about half of the time. The other half, anything that was in the middle of getting or sending data over a network craps out and has to be reloaded. Google Earth crashes every few minutes. Firefox was inexplicably crashing at work every time I printed something from it. The print would go through succesfully, but Firefox froze and, because Vista decides that once one program is stopped, everything has to stop, I have to kill it through task manager to do anything else. Things run much slower than they do on XP on my old 2ghz, 2GB system despite the fact that this is a 2ghz dual core, 4GB system. I hate this OS with venom. I'm using it to get used to it on the idea that our company will be moving to it at some point. I hope with all my heart that that never comes to pass.

A while ago, I helped a friend of [livejournal.com profile] akreaveter wipe Vista off of a new computer he bought and put XP on it for him. Now it's running much, much better. But when it crashes, or otherwise hiccups, they now refer to it as a Vista flashback. That cracks me up.
