I'm still in a happy place after a really nice weekend.

I got to see friends at Mo's on Friday. Even though I got to the coffee meetup late, people stayed pretty late anyway. In fact, I ended up going home around 11ish 'cause I was getting tired and people were still standing around and talking. But before that, I walked down to the fountain in front of the museum with [livejournal.com profile] posicat and [livejournal.com profile] novaotter, where I rolled up my jeans and played around in the fountain, sticking my feet in the jets and walking around on the inner ring until it finally turned off and we went back to Mo's. A sudden gust of wind sprayed me all down the right side, and I think Posi now has pictures of my feet with water spraying up around them, and of Nova and I standing on the edge of the fountain in goofy poses. That was great!

Saturday, while [livejournal.com profile] moiracoon and friends went to Milwaukee for the bean and button show, I stayed home and worked on cleaning up the computer room and putting together more stuff to give to to the freecycler who picked up my last big load of computer hardware. He showed up Sunday morning and got my great big box of cables, the gamepad and joystick that another person never showed up to claim, my dual PIII server box (minus hard drives of course), and a few other things. My computer room, and rack downstairs, are looking much clearer, and it was all stuff that I'm really not going to miss.

You know, Moira says that I get obsessive about stuff, and I guess she's right. When something piques my interest, I want to explore it as fully as I can. And I've found, constantly thinking about squeezing more miles out of my gallons, that the same mentality has sort of bled over into other aspects of my life. Always keeping my car uncluttered to save on weight has, in a weird way, motivated me more about keeping my personal areas of my dwelling uncluttered to save weight of the mental variety. I'm also starting to look at ways to, if you will, hypermile my expenses by reducing all the little bits of them that I can. I'm finally going to see about getting a script together to update my DNS provider if my IP address changes, then move to a cheaper ISP that may not give me a static address. I don't need much bandwidth, but I've stuck with cable because it's, effectively, a static public IP for my server to use. It feels good to simplify. It feels good to look at the big empty shelf on my storage rack in the basement that used to jammed with old hardware. It's good to see empty space under my workbench that used to house a backup server I haven't used in over a year. Simplifying my belongings simplifies my mind.

But, as I said, that was my Saturday. Sunday was even better!

[livejournal.com profile] rileybear67 came by early on Sunday morning and spent the whole day with us. Apart from lunch (Chinese buffet! Whee!), the three of us spent just about the whole day sitting on the futon and talking. I got to show off my pictures from the UP (I really need to sort them and post them here, I know), and we all got to know each other better. It was really wonderful having her over and we've talked about bicycle trips and other possibilities in the future. Thanks so much for coming to visit; we had a great day with you!

Monday was Monday. I had to call Progressive to complain that my premium was much higher than they told me it was going to be when I renewed it at the end of last month. They reduced it by a hundred dollars, but the six month total is still fifty higher than they claimed it would be, so I'm thinking about looking around for other quotes again; there's that hypermiling my expenses thing..... I also spent time on the phone with Lingo who, despite having charged my credit card again for the service that I canceled at the end of last month, were unable to find any record of my account. I have to look to see if I can find an account number and call them back again. Craziness. If I can't find anything, and they won't help me out, I'll just have to call my bank and tell them to deny the charge and send them a copy of the cancellation confirmation email I got. I was amused more than anything else. I'll get it straightened out sooner or later.

It is good that I am not in my company's Chicago office. They had pizza brought in. From Lou Malnati's. They have 12, count them, twelve left over.

I would have tried to eat them all. *sighs* Lou Malnati's.......

Instead, I had a big slice of cheesecake since our manager decided to buy as all a big one from The Cheesecake Factory. I kind of wish I hadn't, but it was yummy.
