stormdog: (Tawas dog)
I spent the last few hours barefoot on my bicycle looking for geocaches. I found four, couldn't find one, and passed on another due to high level of muggle activity; I'll come back for it later. I also simply enjoyed a couple hours spend on my bicycle seeing the Lake Michigan shore. I'm definitely doing more cycling this year. Having learned from my hypermiling experiences, I filled my bike tires up to near max sidweall at about 70psi; much better riding!

[livejournal.com profile] moiracoon called me on my cell phone as I was coming home from dropping in on [livejournal.com profile] akreaveter for a few minutes. As I coasted to the side of the road and dug my phone out of my backpack, it occurred to me how odd it seemed to be getting a phone call on my bike. Back when I used to be out riding for hours a day was long before I ever had a cell phone.

Speaking of blasts from the past, I have finally almost completely stopped driving to my parents house by accident when coming home, but as I pedaled onward from my last stop with home as my intent, I found myself back at my parents house again and didn't even realize it until I was at the corner of their block, three houses away.

I got in on a group buy for a ScanGauge at www.cleanmpg.com; it should arrive sometime next week, so I'm pretty excited about that. I'm going to set it to display instant MPG and average MPG, as well as throttle position (to maintain even engine loading on hills) and for collant temperature. Why coolant temperature? I want to try cutting some foamboard into a full or partial grill-block for my car to reduce drag and I want to make sure I don't overheat the engine.

*woofs* It's warm in here!

Ok, help me out here, fellow geeks.

I have four Contivity network appliances that I want to sell on Ebay. I need to make sure that all of their configuration data is wiped first. A friend on the server team at work tells me that if you can connect to them through HTTP with a browser, there's an easy to run command that will clear them out and reset them to factory config.

However, I have no idea what IP address they are currently set with, or their subnet mask, or anything like that. If you needed to find a mystery box that was plugged into your physical network, but you had no idea what subnet or address it was using, how would you do it? Is there a way?

Thanks!

[livejournal.com profile] moiracoon tells me that she and her fellow bead and button show attendees are not being allowed to leave the convention center right now because the weather outside is so bad. Here in Kenosha, we've just had a major temperature drop and the rain is starting to come down. I'm thinking that I'm going to pass on driving up to the gathering in Milwaukee. The barbecue sounds likely to be rained out anyway. Plus, for some reason, I'm feeling more than a little bit tired and don't want to find myself getting really sleepy an hour away from home. *yawns* Instead, I'm going to organize here a little more.

I'm divesting myself of more stuff.

[livejournal.com profile] stormgren, I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to you on the switch. I've had the box of phones in my car for a week though! If you can send me $15 to my Paypal account, that should cover shipping of both boxes.

[livejournal.com profile] posicat, I have a few more Dell power supplies if you want them. Also; I really don't think I'm ever going to have a need for that two post rack I have out in the garage. If you'd still like it, please let me know. I could put it in your van for you or something. I'd like to start really cleaning out my garage. Speaking of which, I need to figure out what to do with that pool. There's not really a good place to set it up in the house I'm in now, and I'd like the room back. Posi, if you want it, could we put it in your storage unit maybe? We can discuss next time we hang out.

[livejournal.com profile] awfulhorrid, that laptop I mentioned way back is all set and ready. Want to talk about it? You can email me or give me a call or something.
