Car stuff.

First thing I need to say is that [livejournal.com profile] sabrinageek is a really wonderful and sweet person who I am very much indebted to for all the help with my new car. Thank you 'Brina. And thanks to Posi and Nova too for the ride out there on Saturday, and to Moira for the ride out on Sunday.

Sabrina fixed the won't start and run issue by replacing the vehicle brain. We then had to replace the brake shoes on the rear passenger wheel because the friction pads had rusted off the shoes and were getting jammed in the drum and locking up the wheel.

She replaced the brake hose on the front driver side wheel (after staying up way late doing research into the problem for me!) because the hose had collapsed on the inside. Brake fluid could enter the caliper piston, but would not leave, so the brake was jammed on. She fixed that on Sunday and all seemed well. I drove it all the way back home from Rockford, a trip of about ninety miles, without a problem. There are minor issues; a noise when turning that I'll have to track down and a little funkiness in shifting, though that seems to be slowly working itself out.

However, about five minutes away from work, Serinthia and I noticed the battery light come on. I'm going to see if I can find any obvious bad connections under the hood at lunch. There was some road roughness on the way in (one bump actually jarred the dashboard cover loose from the dashboard!) and I'm thinking it was probably a corroded wire coming loose or breaking somewhere. I wish I had my voltmeter, but I'll do what I can.

If I can't figure it out, I'll take it to an Autozone or something after work and have them do electrical system testing. At least I've still got all my tools in case I need to do work on it and replace parts. Worst case, I can find a local-to-work mechanic and drop it off on Tuesday or Wednesday morning. I'm sure it's something simple. There's only three things it could be, really; battery (which is new), alternator, or connections and wires.

I also still need to replace the shoes on the driver's side rear wheel, and the brake hose on the front passenger side wheel just to make everything match, but those aren't as pressing.
