Oct. 30th, 2008 08:43 amI'd kind of forgotten about the half hour block of Obama air time yesterday. You tend to forget about these things when you don't have TV service I suppose. But I was over at my parents' house last night for our weekly dinner and they turned it on.
I think we were all somewhat disappointed. I mean, it was nice and all, but I was hoping for something more interesting and original. Instead, the vast majority of it (and maybe I missed some 'cause I didn't see all of it, so please correct me if I'm wrong) seemed to be anecdotal narratives of how great people are and much Obama is going to help them out of the tough situations they're in. In fact, I kept wanting to make MSTie-like comments. The best one was when they started interviewing an auto worker and I couldn't help but paraphrase The Onion's video about how Obama's policies will make sure that shitty jobs stay in this country so our children can work shitty jobs just like their parents!
I don't mean to be down on the Obama campaign. I guess it's that sort of empty-calorie message that works in most places. I just wish it wasn't so; I was mildly turned off by it. Of course, I already voted yesterday, so who cares about my opinion anymore, right? *laughs*
I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of people that were at the municipal building on a Wednesday morning at eight o' clock. I figured I'd be in and out, but there were probably forty or fifty people there in line. I was glad to see it. My dad says his students wanted to take him out to vote early, but my parents like to vote together, even if, as they said last night, they cancel each other out once in a while. *grins* Plus, my dad said that he feels a little more secure about his vote when it's done as part of the standard, on-election-day process. I have to admit, I've been just a little bit worried that, for some reason, my early vote won't get counted or something. I guess that depends less on when I cast it than on whether it's a Diebold machine that's going to count it...
My car started making a really disturbing noise on the way home. I was really hoping it could get through to the 5th when I have a day off, and was really frustrated about having to deal with it earlier. Fortunately, when I stopped and looked, I found that it was merely that, somehow, my lug nuts on one wheel had all gotten loose. I must not have tightened them down enough when I inspected the wheel bearings a while ago. Still, it seems rather odd... Now that they are snugged up again, the Neon is making only somewhat disturbing noises instead of extremely disturbing noises. This pleases me.
I posted a bunch of pictures to Flickr from The House on the Rock last night, but I've only captioned a few of them, so don't go look yet, ok? (Or if you do, at least go back after I've added my witty remarks to them for context.)
