stormdog: (sleep)
A link from [livejournal.com profile] farm_cat, here is an open letter on farming and food production policy (Since plowshares ought to be at least as important to our leaders as swords, I like the heading of 'farmer-in-chief' at the top) to the president elect. There's some really excellent stuff in here.

And in more political news, my manager has okayed me to come in a little late tomorrow so I can vote early. It'll be good to get that out of the way.

Oh my god.

My company launched a new intranet site at the time of our merger. Assuming our company name is X, the address was subdomain of insideX.com.

So people have been having trouble getting to the new intranet site from outside our offices. Guess what? We just found out today that my company doesn't own the domain. We apparently setup insideX.com as an internal, private domain, uncaring of the fact that insideX.com already exists as a parked domain that some holding company owns. OOPS!

Now we have to update the hosts file on each affected computer (and there are a lot of them) to point to the right address. Otherwise they try to go to our intranet home page (which, by the way, has now been set by group policy to be the unchangeable home page on every machine in our domain) and get some garbage search page for golf balls and crap.

How could you not check to see if a domain that you're going to use might be, I don't know, already owned by someone else? God, I love this company.

So I was going to post a bunch of Keweenau pictures to Flicker. Then I realized that I don't have them on this hard drive. Oops. So instead I started sorting through the 400-plus House on the Rock pictures I have and picking some to post. But then I realized that a number of them, particularly the ones of carousel creatures, have *GASP!!* bare breasts!

Being new to Flickr, I'm not sure how their moderation works. I'm not sure what constitutes 'moderate' versus 'restricted' comment, as used in their community guidelines. I guess I'll mark them as 'moderate'; I mean, they're just art pieces. It talks about considering what content would be appropriate to show 'your mum'. Considering that at Midwest Furfest one year, [livejournal.com profile] moiracoon commented on a piece of rather explicit art and pointed out to the person next to her that it looked a lot like me, and my mother, who Moira then realized happened to be the person standing next to her, just looked at it herself and expressed agreement, that may not be the best standard to apply to pieces for consumption by the general public. I'm guessing that, by restricted, they're talking about things like full frontal nudity, but they're not really clear.
