Sep. 4th, 2009 09:26 amI had a really great time at the fire manipulation meetup I went to with
moiracoon and
jimcyl last night. The fire manipulators were universally impressive, and the drumming was energizing and exciting. The whole effect was very tribal and primitive. It was one of the most, for lack of a better term, real performances I've seen in a long time. There's no pretense to to it. Just people going up and playing with fire for a crowd who is sitting around them in a circle, or beating a rhythm for them on their hand drums.
I got a few good pictures, and will post a few more as I get to things.

I'm considering taking my torches next time and doing juggling. There were a couple people who juggled torches, but it was only a couple and it was a small part of the overall meet, so there's probably room for another juggler. It also tempts me to finally buy a set of these like I wanted in high school.
I'm looking forward to going again next month. Maybe I can convince
moiracoon to get some fire fans by then and use some of her dance training to show off!
Then we went out for a bite to eat with
mlsguy, which was quite pleasant too, though I was out much past the puppy-dog bed time. *yawns* Worth it though.
Thanks again to Jimcyl for clueing me in to the meetup.
