Oct. 21st, 2009 04:47 pmMy 500Gb hard drive from 3BTech showed up today.
I chose them over one (slightly) cheaper merchant because I had a good experience with them last time. The hard drive I got died after about a week, and they got me a new one quickly. It hasn't been very impressive this time, unfortunately.
The enclosure made a distinct clunk when I turned it over. That's not very cool, but I figured I'd let it go. I plugged it into my Linksys slug and tried to format it. The format failed. Odd. I connected it to my laptop instead and looked at disk manager. Very interesting...I'm only seeing 250GB of capacity.
My curiosity piqued, I started opening it up. The clunking was due to the fact that they used the wrong screws to secure the hard drive to the enclosure; they are too small, and the edges of the screw threads barely brush the edges of the threads in the holes on the hard drive. On top of the letting the hard drive slide back and forth in the mounting slots, it makes them real buggers to get out too. Having freed the hard drive from its prison, I noted the big ol' label that clearly states 250.0GB. Blah.
I've emailed them and I expect to hear back tomorrow. Even if they resolve the problem quickly, two returns for two orders isn't so great in my book. I may decide to go with a different vendor next time.
Tonight, I'm going to go to the gym again (finally), reassemble the dryer with the new igniter that showed up yesterday, and maybe clean the computer room again.

moiracoon and mocha_mephoki who came and picked me up in Waukegan last night after an evening out with rileybear67.
And thanks as well to the wonderful Rileybear. Love, it was wonderful to get to see you again. Thanks for walking around the city with me. I didn't get many pictures, but I'm so happy to have spent the evening with you.

Oh, and more stuff I forgot before I dash out. I got an email saying one of my pictures has been short-listed for inclusion in the latest (mid-November) Chicago Schmap. I didn't enter it or anything; they just found it in my Flickr account. That gave me such a smile!
