Jan. 12th, 2010 12:12 pmThe latest from management. Oh, by the way...we just completely changed the hardware procurement process and now you have to individually assess each case to decide if an upgrade is required. Kthxbye.
Apparently that happend a few days ago, but we were never told. People had been emailing me lately after I told them how to do the procurement process and telling me that they needed approval. "Sure" I'd say, "you need to get approval from your manager, then they'll order for you." I mean, that's the way we've been doing it since the merge, and nobody told me it changed.
Have I mentioned that my company does not have an asset tracking system? I mean nothing at all. Not one that we never used and was never up to date (like the one before the merge). We just don't have one at all at this point.
I'm gonna watch that video at the Gateway tech site about electrician training tonight.
-------
Maybe I'm just burned out. Even with the slight raise and the promise of better work ahead, I just can't get motivated about anything I do here. I'm just tired of this. Which is clearly not making me a good employee.
-------
My left ring finger is giving me a twinge when I move it up to hit the 'W' or '2' keys. I wish we had an ergonomics person around here to tell me how to lay things out. I do the best I can with info from the internet, but I wonder if I could do better. Plus, the relative heights of my desk and chair are not, methinks, conducive to proper form.
------
On the plus side, a couple of typing tests I just took rated my WPM in the mid-eighties. The last test was 87WPM with one error. I'm faster than I thought I was. Maybe I am fast enough to have a transcription job. I really think I'd be even faster if I had a position that exposed me to a wider variety of text than working at a help desk does.
------
I know; this entry is getting progressively more random.
------
Also, I found a play through of the entire Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards on Youtube last night. I've never actually played the game, so I watched some of the walk through. It looks highly silly, unspeakably dated, but very funny (though occasionally disturbingly sexist). One of these days, I really have to try Leather Goddesses of Phobos.
