stormdog: (Tawas dog)
I have a good story today.

I drove to Toppers (it's a local pizza chain for those who aren't familiar) last night on the way to Posi's to pick up my free pizza for the week. I was listening to music via my cell phone, FM injector, and car stereo. I parked the car in the lot, paused the music, stuck my phone in my pocket, and went inside. As I walked up to the counter, I started hearing some music. I had to think about it for moment to place it, but I soon realized it was a song from a They Might Be Giants album. In fact, it was one that I knew because it was on my playlist on my phone!

As I picked up the pizza, I commented to the guy behind the counter that I liked the music. He seemed confused so I pointed up at the ceiling and said "You've got They Might Be Giants on the overhead speakers. Good stuff!"

"We try!" he said as I walked out of the store. As I stepped out of the vestibule, I realized that I was still hearing the music. Did they play music outside of the store now? No, they didn't. Embarrassedly, I took my phone out of my pocket and realized that it had started playing again. In retrospect, I don't remember if they even play music in Toppers. I laughed as I wondered just how high I looked, a long haired guy walking in in sandals, t-shirt, and sunglasses commenting on the non-existent music.

Speaking of food, I have been eating quite a variety of things lately! The pizza I ordered? Veggie special. I'm trying to have less sodium (and more fruits and vegetables) lately to help with high blood pressure. The pizza was covered in mushrooms, olives, onions, and green pepper. I ate it, and it was awesome. I clearly remember a day when I wouldn't have come near a green pepper on my food. These days, I'm eating jalapeƱo slices and hot peppers on my pad thai, green pepper on my pizza, and even whole dried peppers from a ziplock bag my parents had in the kitchen. (That was hot! I loved it!)

On top of that, I took my dad up on his offer to make a fruit smoothie for me. He put yogurt, ice cream, strawberries, and blueberries in a blender and pureed them. It's another thing I can clearly remember avoiding at all costs. But I had a cup of the stuff and, apart from the strawberry seeds that kind of bugged me, it was pretty decent. I could see getting used to it. Next time, I'm going to try blueberry and banana.

Add to that the fact that my breakfast for the last few days has been oatmeal and Fiber One cereal, and I seem to be eating -dare I say it?- kind of healthfully. I think the apocalypse may be on the way. (And wow is that Fiber One filling; yesterday, even with three slices of pizza, I only had about 1300 calories and didn't even notice until I filled out my spreadsheet.)

I drove out with my dad to the Jelly Belly distribution center in Kenosha this morning so he could get some squished pennies. One set for him, one to trade online. It seems like a fun hobby! I'm going to get some more from him on my way through Michigan. Then we stopped at the grocery store to mail a few bills I needed to pay. The two of us just got done looking at all the pictures he took with my camera at the family reunion, and in half an hour or so, we're going out to meet with some of the folks from his theatre program for sushi. He was nice enough to offer to buy me some too, so I think I'm going to have some spicy tuna roll. Yum!

Posi and I watched Minority Report last night. I'd never seen it and I enjoyed it a lot. Seems like Philip K. Dick stories always make good movies somehow. Now I want to read the short story. I'm looking forward to getting a library card once I'm in the city. Thanks Posi for having me over to visit!

I had an idea for my car today. I think I could get by in the city day-to-day without a car. I'd also like to avoid paying insurance for a car that I rarely drive. But I want to have the opportunity to take long trips when I want to. Solution: leave my car in Kenosha for [livejournal.com profile] akreaveter to use and get him on my parents' insurance. He'd have a car to use to get to work if he gets a job, and I'd be able to borrow it back here and there to go places. We're going to discuss this further today and my mom will see if they can afford to have him on their policy. Then, when I need to use it, I could see about getting some kind of temporary coverage. It looks like I could either get some for myself, or it could be added on to my parents' policy for a short time and I'd pay them back. More research will be required, but it seems feasible.
