stormdog: (Tawas dog)
I'm planning to attend Windycon this year. I'm not sure when the last time I attended a convention by myself was. A long time, certainly.

My schedule for those couple weeks of November looks like this:

I'm going to request the Friday of Windy off work. No one else has requested it yet, so I think I'm good there. I'll be at Windy through Sunday, and I'll leave Sunday evening, or early Monday morning, for New Orleans.

I'll be in New Orleans through Sunday the 21st, and will drive home late that evening, or *very* early Monday. I have that Monday off too, and I should be able to make the fifteen hour drive in a day. And then collapse. *fwoomp*

What I still have to do, soon, is:

Confirm a date with Juan to fix my car and let him know about the exhaust so he can get parts.
Get reregistered on couchsurfing.com and find someone to stay with down there.
Buy a membership to Windycon.
Buy a membership to the AAA conference.
Find a roommate for Windy/otherwise determine lodging.

I don't want to spent the amount it would take for a room to myself at Windy, especially with the New Orleans trip coming up. I could commute I suppose. I don't really drink, so driving even if I go to parties is not an issue. It'd be nicer to be closer though.

Well, it's good to know what I have to work on this week!

And here's another picture from my trip with Posicat!

Hobo Fire

Posi took a picture of me in front of our campfire at the hobo jungle in Rochelle, Illinois.

Rochelle is the site of a crossing of two mainline railroad routes. The city has built a raised viewing platform there with piped-in radio dispatch traffic, lights, and picnic tables. As well, at the far end, there are steps down to this gravelly area with a firepit and small overhanging concrete shelter.

I've wanted to have a campfire here and watch trains ever since I read about this place. I'm so happy to have had the chance to do that with my friend.

I totally forgot to ask this directly, which is funny because it was originally going to be the point of my previous post.

I'm looking for a roommate for Windycon. Is anyone interested in potentially sharing a room with me? I am house-broken and I don't bite (except by special request).
stormdog: (sleep)
I really want to write about all the stuff I did with [livejournal.com profile] posicat this weekend, and what's coming up this week for me, but I only got five or six hours of sleep last night. I'm going to get a shower and just maybe do a little reading in bed before I fall asleep.

On a tangent, my LJ user profile is I don't know how many years old now. I wrote it up in the hope that I might meet people at conventions of other social spaces, get to know them a bit in conversation, and then trade LJ names (or at least give them mine) so that they could look at my profile and get a sense of why it can be hard for me to get to know people.

At this point, I think I like explaining about it in person, and I'd prefer to have a profile that's more descriptive of me in general. (Also, LJ doesn't seem to be quite as prevalent even in fannish circles as it once was, so even if I thought my profile was what I wanted people to see about me, it might not be something people would go and look at commonly anyway.)

I'll have to think about how to rewrite it. There are a few places where I should write a better bio, either because I originally dashed off something short, or because I, or what I want to get out of my presence in a social site, have changed. My Facebook bio is all of one (albeit rather drawn-out) sentence about how I work in IT but would rather be photographing. Well, something to think about.
