I've never done one of these before. I feel a little awkward putting something like this out there I suppose. But I'd like to take part in this thing that I've seen for so many years on Livejournal, if only in case LJ changes or the meme goes away, so that I can have had the chance.

I'm not even really sure how these are supposed to work. I can leave these for friends too, right? There doesn't have to be any kind of romantic interest? I'm a little hesitant to do so in case I'm doing something wrong.

NPR is playing a segment from a series called The Hidden World of Girls. It's about girls and their relationships to animals, and the segment title is "Horses, Unicorns, and Dolphins".

It's kind of funny to me that I grew up with contact with horses and still deeply miss my vague memories of them. Unicorns have always fascinated me; I used to watch The Last Unicorn repeatedly when I was a little boy and I still have a great interest in the mythology and symbolism of the unicorn. When I was in school, I always kind of wanted those pretty folders and book covers with unicorns and pegasi on them. (And I've always thought dolphins were pretty cool too, though not quite as much so.)
