Jun. 22nd, 2011 12:32 pmMy dad saw me and asked me a question as I stopped the car in my parents' driveway yesterday and got out. "Do you want to go to Origins?"
Dwarf is running a booth there and was looking for help to staff it. I kind of decided I would since he needed another person still, and it would be really fun to go to Origins and play some games. The last time I was at a gaming con (Gen Con, years ago) I was too nervous around other people to actually play any games. I think I'd have *tons* of fun this time.
Last night though, as I was thinking about missing my Japanese class, and visiting Danae this weekend, and the usual visit to Lisa on Wednesday, and I was thinking that as much fun as I'd have at Origins, I kind of would rather be around the Chicago area this week and weekend. I only have two more classes left, and I want to see people as much as I can before my move back to Wisconsin.
I found out this morning that Dwarf has another person going with, so he has enough staff. He still has room for me to go with if I want (and will actually pay me a modest amount plus a food stipend), but without the need to go along to make sure he has enough staff, I think I'm going to stay around here. Yeah.
Last night, I played a game of Pandemic and one of Carcassonne with Todd and Serinthia. The three of us had some yummy dinner that Serin made too, as well as cookies I contributed. We got to catch up on what's been going on in our lives since it's been a while. Serin showed me how you go about building houses and things in Second Life, and I came up with all sorts of weird things to have her try, including one that ended up shooting a little object she made off like a cannon somewhere into someone else's territory! It was a really nice evening. I was planning to go back over this morning, but then I learned I'd be going to Origins, so I didn't. Except then I found out I *wasn't* going to Origins, but now I have to get ready for my appointment. I'll admit it, I find this spontaneity appealing to some degree, though I feel bad about having caused plan confusion for people.
I need to get a shower, then I have my appointment at 3, then I'm going back to Chicago. I got to play two games of Pandemic with my brother this morning, plus a game of Fluxx. It's been great playing so many board games lately!
