Jul. 2nd, 2012 05:55 pmI talked to a couple people at the police station today. I told the woman at the front desk about how the officer in the car on Thursday had threatened to write me a ticket for obstructing traffic. She was pretty sure that I was ok riding in the street. She asked if I wanted to file a complaint, and also suggested I could talk to the shift leader for that time span since he was in.
I decided not to file a complaint (this time), but did ask to talk to the lieutenant. He came out and I described the events again and why I felt it was important to bring it up. I emphasized that I appreciate and respect our police, and that I'm trying to ride within the law, and that I believe riding on the street as part of traffic is the safest way to ride.
He agreed that I was doing the right thing and told me he'd talk to the officers about cyclists. It all went pretty well, and I feel proud of myself for going and discussing it in person and making a little bit of a difference.
