I've officially dropped the class I've been thinking of dropping for a bunch of reasons. On top of everything else (that I'm not going to get into in a public, unanonymized venue such as this), I realized as I went through the process that it is a one hour class. I'm feeling even better about it; a one credit class was not worth that headache. There was actually some confusion about that from the beginning too; about how many credit hours the class was. I'm a little puzzled about how I was meeting in class for two hours a week for a one credit class....
---
Why can't I decide on a research topic for my upcoming history paper? I need one by two-thirty when we're doing research in class....
I was thinking about writing about art in 1936. I think it's a viable idea, and that there's a lot to be learned contextually from the styles and design used in magazines of the time. But I don't think I have a solid enough background in art history to make it work for me without a lot more research, and I don't want to make it harder on myself than it needs to be. A big part of me wants to research some kind of social issue. Technology might be good too. It's world-level, though focused on the US, as we'll be using mostly domestic news periodicals. Though we will have access to things like the London Times and whatever else the library happens to have from outside the country.
---
Ok, I'm going to look at technology in 1935. As good as anything. Now I can start doing the research. I'm sure I'll find other things to include as I go along.
Now I need to get my lunch out of my car and start working on the cultural anthropology paper due on Friday.
