I might not have paid much attention to this building if it wasn't for the broken section of glass banding just below the cornice. I looked up and saw letters peeking out from underneath the flat black panels.

I have a fascination with buildings that are repurposed, and the way this one's former life as a Serbian hall is breaking through it's current one was appealing. Moving around to get the right angle reveals the hidden text on this very literal architectural palimpsest.

Edited to add: I didn't actually realize, until looking the term up just now, that 'palimpsest' is, in fact, a term used in architectural discussion. Oh, that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy! I didn't know it until now, but I've always loved architectural palimpsests. That adds another layer of attachment to this literal one for me.

Groupon is offering this class for $39 instead of $450. Does anyone who knows image processing feel like this would be worthwhile for me as someone who wants to get better at photo editing in Photoshop?

This statue is a memorial to 48 workers who were killed in an explosion at the ammunition plant they worked at in 1942.

I really enjoy photographing statuary. I get to walk around it, think about it, and try to decide what I want to make the photo say.

I had a beautiful sky over the cemetery while I was there. The brightness made it a little difficult to photograph things on the ground, but this shot came out alright. The pavement, damp from the rain, added some shine. I love the crepuscular rays, probably my favorite atmospheric affect.

Much like Arlington National Cemetery, Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery is full of rows upon rows of these small unadorned tombstones. Unlike Arlington, there are not sections of many other, grander, more diverse stones that come from that institution's long past. Abraham Lincoln is relatively new, and I have to admit, rather less visually interesting.

This monument stands in the memory of sailors on Navy destroyer escorts.
I don't intend to disparage uniformed servicemen. Rather, my criticism is directed at whatever writer/editor/proofreader team approved the poorly formed prose on this plaque. I was boggled as I stood and read it several times.

One more picture for the moment. Me and the Gemini Giant along old Route 66 in Wilmington, Illinois outside of the Launching Pad restaurant. I had a truly memorable milkshake here. Beyond that, I love the spirit of the early space program reflected in this restaurant. I'll post more pictures of it later.

I'm being stressy and can't seem to concentrate on studying for my finals over the next two days. So I ate a PB&J.
