(no subject)
Apr. 17th, 2013 08:01 pmWhile researching a presentation I'm doing, I found a quote on sexual orientation by Cynthia Nixon that I like enough to share. It reflects my view on the subject. Not that orientation is a choice for everyone, but that it can be and is for some people and there's no reason for that not to be ok.
"Why can’t it be a choice? Why is that any less legitimate? It seems we’re just ceding this point to bigots who are demanding it, and I don’t think that they should define the terms of the debate."
When we say that being gay is ok because it's not a choice in the context of justifying the existence of GLB people, then we're saying that there's something wrong with being gay. Otherwise, the issue would be moot.
