Jul. 11th, 2013 04:53 pmI gave a field-school classmate a ride home after class today. We went by my bank, so I remembered that I should take out a little cash in case I need to buy a train ticket this weekend. The route also took me by the St. Vincent De Paul store, where I found out they were having a buy one get one free sale on jeans.
And, even though it's usually tough to find jeans in my size and length, I scored two good pairs. One of the pairs I regularly wear already are black Levi's 505s. I found two *more* pairs of black 505s with a one inch smaller waist that actually fit slightly better. While I'd prefer a boot cut over a straight-let cut, two good pairs of jeans for about 7 dollars is pretty nice.
So a good day so far! I went to the bike shop (Total Cyclery on 52nd street) at lunch to get my back wheel trued. The guy there (owner, I think) was kind enough to not only true my wheel, but also lubricate my chain and breaks and things and show me what I want to use in doing it myself. It does seem like my bottom bracket bearing is going bad, and the chain is well-worn too, so I'll be replacing those later. (Probably the rear cassette too, as it's likely worn down with the chain. He said at this point I should just ride 'till the chain breaks 'cause I have to replace both parts anyway. Hopefully it won't happen in the middle of nowhere.) Anyway, he's a little bit brusque, but I feel better about him than other local places. I'm going to keep going there when I need parts and service.
This evening, I need to eat, do laundry, write more letters to potential advisors, and work on cleaning up the front porch to have room to store and work on my bike. Food first though; hungry!
