stormdog: (sleep)
Some faceblind people are so bad with faces that they don't recognize people they've known all their lives, like their parents. I'm not quite that bad. At least, that's what I thought.

As I waited at the Waukegan station for my parents to pick me up, I saw a car that looked just like theirs arrive. I waved at it. The people in the car said something that I couldn't hear to me. As it got closer, I looked at the person sitting in the passenger seat and realized that I didn't know who it was. I sheepishly said "Sorry, same car, wrong people" and looked away. But shortly, the person called me by name, and I looked back and realized that it was, in fact, my dad. I don't know what was different that made me not be able to recognize him at first, but by my first look, it could have been a stranger for all I knew. Maybe it's his weight loss since heart surgery. Regardless, I'm very glad that my parents understand my issues with faces.

Anyway, I'm home from Toronto after a long drive from Hamilton to Evanston, a train ride from Evanston to Waukegan, and a car ride back to Kenosha. I'm trying to catch up a little bit with a few people and things, but I'm pretty tired and I have a training session to go to tomorrow. I miss Danae's parents, but it's really nice to be back home.
