Sep. 25th, 2013 04:07 pmAfter pondering various possible origins of the mouth problems I'm having, I may have figured out the root cause. I think it is, in fact, tied to something I ate. Regretfully, though perhaps unavoidably, I made that determination through repeat exposure.
Man, that general Tso's chicken is tasty! It was hard to convince myself to restrict my intake to half a dozen bits on one side of my mouth. Soon after eating, though, that side of my mouth was giving me major discomfort and pain again. When I'd woken up this morning, I was feeling significantly better, if not completely back to normal, so the correlation is clear, if not the causation. I do know I'm not eating any more of my leftovers though.
What I was eating the *last* time it began, on Monday, was sesame chicken, so I'm thinking it's something in the breading. (Though I'm puzzled by the fact that I ate it on Sunday too without any problems.) I hope that, if it is the food, that it's something odd in this restaurant's formulation rather than some new allergy I'm developing.
The feeling is mostly in my gums, though I think my teeth become hypersensitive to temperature while it's happening too. Cold water in the area is painfully intense. I'm even aware of some bleeding from my gums where the soreness is. Hopefully the healing will take less time, it having been a smaller exposure. But if not, then I've got another full day of dental pain ahead of me while things calm down. I may take more Ibuprofen. Which in itself tells me that the pain was fairly serious; headaches bad enough for me to take pain-killers are pretty rare for me, but I was dosing myself with Ibuprofen regularly for most of that span.

Tim and I finally managed to ride to school together this morning! More accurately, we rode most of the way. Five miles along our seven-and-a-half mile route, Tim's chain broke. It's a brand new bike, and not cheapie Huffy or something, so I'm a bit surprised by this. But he's also pretty unfamiliar with the whole process of riding. He stopped without gearing down and tried to change gears while accelerating from a stop at high gear; that probably popped the link.
Except for that, it was a nice leisurely ride, and I'm hoping we can do it again soon. I do have to get used to riding about half the speed I normally do, but means I'm less sweaty and have someone to talk to. The total increase in trip time is also significantly less than double because part of the time expended has always been stopping at stop signs and things too, and that portion of bicycling is not variable by speed.
