I wonder if anyone is doing oral histories of virtual places? Environments like old newsgroups, Glitch, Second Life, or other places that have existed on the internet and formed real, significant communities? It seems like it would be valuable.

Ah, yes; here we go. Nifty! I should look through this more.

The memorial at Mother Jones' gravesite in Mt. Olive, Illinois.

This was one of the more memorable stops on my trip.

It's funny how, so often, a bunch of seemingly unrelated things come together. I'm most of the way through Weber's work on capitalism. This weekend I bought a thrift-store copy of Atlas Shrugged: It's clearly an influential book, so much as I expect I'll hate it, it's worth listening to for 75ยข. And now, with thoughts of capitalism, the morality and ethics of labor, and Rand's libertarianism in my head, I just happen to have photos of a labor activist's last resting place next in my photo queue.

One of my favorite sorts of things to photograph are sites of informal public expression. This message board bedecked with union pins and flyers, as well as graffiti , is one such site.

Tonight, I'm playing a three-player game of Mater of Orion II with my brother and mother. We're all sitting here in my room with laptops and desktop, running the game in DOSBox via emulated IPX/SPX networking that my brother figured out how to get running.

While other people work on their turns, I work on picture editing in Adobe Photoshop in windows on my 2nd and 3rd monitors. This is great! I'm getting tons of editing done and not getting burned out doing it. At the same time, I'm being social with my family and feeling connected to them as well as playing a fun game. This works pretty well!
