stormdog: (Meghan)
I'm so tired today after getting up at 6 o' clock to make the Chiapas meeting. I think I'm going to, um, do more school work.

The Chiapas meeting was interesting. It was the mandatory orientation session with the study abroad office, and the clash of my trip with their typical approach was a little funny. We couldn't really provide a hotel because we're not actually staying at one most of the time. No address or phone number either. They talked about the standard procedure of notifying the Mexican Department of State that we'd be there, and the professor said that, really, she'd prefer not to notify them to avoid the chance of we or the Zapatistas we're staying with being targeted for government harassment. Typically things go smoothly she said, but once in the past, the trucks her group was on were followed by the military, then stopped and searched.

This trip could be exciting in all sorts of ways. (I'm kind of excited about the thought of being somewhere with *no address*. That's quite outside the typical Western experience.)

I'm covered by a trip insurance policy that covers all sorts of possible occurrences, including repatriation of my mortal remains. Hopefully it won't be *that* exciting.

I have set up my new foldable shelves I mentioned earlier on top of my dresser and spread out all of my hair things on it. Now my brush, comb, barrettes, hair sticks, and everything else are in easy reach. They were previously all piled into a wicker basket that's now only mostly full instead of overflowing. I found a bunch of nice, pretty things I'd forgotten I owned and I wore one of them today. This one, actually. I find myself brushing my hair out in the mornings and evenings, enjoying having everything near at hand, and I think my hair has been looking nicer for the attention. And I just like seeing all my hair toys spread out in front of me. Now I just need someone to teach me how to use some of them.

I need to get started on studying for the GIS mid term coming up on Thursday. I also want to at least do an outline for my history term paper. And I think I want to make out some index cards with synopses of the theories of the folks we've talked about in my anthropology theory class so far. Marx, Weber, Durkheim, Herbert Spencer (and his relation to Darwin), Edward Tylor, and Lewis Morgan. Am I missing anybody? Anyway, those are things I *really* want to get accomplished before I leave on Thursday of next week.

I'm leaving Thursday of next week. Wow. And I'll be in Chicago on Wednesday evening, so that's really when it feels like the trip is starting.

I have an appointment to enroll myself at the Kenosha Community Health Center tomorrow morning at nine o' clock. They have a sliding scale payment system, and will act as a primary care provider. I need to bring some ID and a copy of my taxes with. Considering I only called this morning, that's pretty good. However, actual medical appointments are booked through to April. Well, I can wait.

Ok, I think I'm too tired to think through theory thoughtfully, though I'm apparently able to assemble alliteration. I'm going to play with ArcGIS a little bit, do another tutorial or two and look at my notes, then get to bed.
