stormdog: (Geek)
I have a bad habit that has stuck with me ever since working in tech support. I really think that's when my attention span shrunk significantly. Now, it can be so hard to sit down in front of something I'm supposed to be doing without continual looks away at email and social media and getting up for a quick trip downstairs and other distractions.

Still, reading over some of my love Danae's statements that she wrote for *her* grad school apps has given me more confidence about writing something that's personal, excited, action-oriented, and political. I made some progress on a new draft, and will continue tomorrow.

There wasn't too much time to work on it tonight anyway. It's one of my long days at school, plus it's one of my days of household kitchen-cleaning duty, plus I pick up my advisor's dog from doggy day care. That's ok; I have an entire afternoon and evening tomorrow.

My last GIS class of the year is over with; now I just have a take-home final due in a week. Creative Services got my pretty poster printed out for me fast! Maybe it's 'cause they know me; the archives are right across the way from them so I see folks from there all the time. However! I forgot to actually have anything to mount it on. Oops! I got up to present, looked around, and asked another student with a tri-fold board if she'd be willing to let me borrow her presentation as a prop. Then, when it still didn't quite sit right, a second student offered to stand and hold my poster. I thanked my "handsome assistant" and got to talkin'! *grins* I'm looking forward to eventually seeing my poster up in the hallway with others from past classes. I think it came out pretty well.

There were therapy dogs at school again today, but I didn't get much time to photograph them. I have some photos of the adorable Pug who was there, Paxton. My schedule kept me away from the others. But I did make it to the awesome student appreciation lunch that the library staff held for us. This is such a great place to work!

I finally registered for classes for the Spring semester. I'm at the point where I can literally take anything I want, except for one class I need to finish my GIS cert. I thought *really* hard about taking a scuba diving class. I've wanted to learn to do that for a very long time! But the hours were weird, it was only one credit, and it had extra fees. Some day. I thought seriously about Economic Geography and a class on the history of colonialism, but I settled on one class on gender and society, another on land use in urban planning, and one on historiography. It's a light load, credit-wise, so I'll have time. I could have even more time if I just took hundred level courses, but why lose the chance to learn about things I actually care about, and will be useful in my career? Plus meta-analysis of history just sounds awesome! Maybe I *should* have made it a major instead of a minor....

Not much else to say before bed, other than that Endomondo has me at exactly 3000 miles by bike for the year as of today.
