Bicycle Scavenging
Jul. 27th, 2016 02:58 pmOn our trip to the local thrift store to drop off stuff from bedroom cleaning, our housemate found a $20 bicycle! I'm so excited about doing some riding with him! And just as much, I'm really happy that I can do something that helps make him happy. I did some tuning up on it in the parking lot while Danae was kind enough to finish with the pizza for lunch. The smile on his face as he rode around the parking lot was fantastic.
I don't know much about mountain bikes; I think it's a fairly generic one. A Magna Great Divide. 3x6 18 speed geartrain, 26" wheels and knobby tires (in decent shape), center pull cantilever brakes (a kind I've never worked with before), and shock-absorbing front fork. I lubricated the chain; it has a sticky link or two that may or may not work loose. It should be replaced, but it works. I lubricated the cables as much as I could without removing them from the bike. I adjusted brakes and derailleurs, though it turns out one of the brake levers is broken and needs a bolt. A great find, all-in-all.
