stormdogI paid three weeks worth of cable (internet) bill last month. While going through bills tonight, I did it again. Oops. I guess I won't have to worry about the cable bill for a while.
I'm considering using my forge to craft a grappling hook for use in abandoned buildings, drains, and other such structures. I can take a big piece of square stock and split one end in two, then split those ends in two and have four hooks that I can bend back over. Then I can open up a big eyelet in the other end to knot some sturdy hemp rope with climbing knots through. I never was any good at climbing rope without knots. Of course, this will call for making very sure that I don't have any flaws in the piece from working too cold and extensive field testing in a safe environment. Hmm. Once you have a grappling hook caught on something and you've climbed up and back down, how do you get it loose again? I'll have to try to figure that out or I'll end up going through a few hooks.
I'm making a mental list of things I need to get together for my forays. I already have a 4 D cell maglight; I'm thinking of picking up a 6 D too. I want a one or two million candle power flashlight like Posi has for big spaces like theatres and a battery pack to run it on. I'll have the grappling hook and climbing rope too for getting to places like the fourth floor of the Plymouth dealership in Gary. I'm thinking about how to design and sew custom holsters for my belt and how to load a backpack with camera gear, food, and everything else. Andrea joked that I'm going to have my own utility belt ala Batman.
I've also realized, after climbing around Gary for eight hours on Sunday, that if I'm serious about doing this a lot, and serious about not just walking around level surfaces, I'm going to need to get in better shape. In combination with my more personal reasons for wanting to be a little bit lighter, I'll be much more able to climb up trapdoors or down manholes, and my ankles and knees won't hurt nearly so much as they were. This calls for more DDR. *smiles*
My post on Gary may be forthcoming later tonight. I want to begin putting a website together to showcase my writings on the buildings I've been in and accompany them with pictures that I take.
