With [livejournal.com profile] serinthia and [livejournal.com profile] todd_riverden's kind permission, I stopped at Menards on the way home and picked up a 75' contractor grade hose and a set of 20" garden shears. Contracty to appearance, I was not on my way to put a hit on a stool-pigeon. Rather, I was fitting the plants in the overgrown jungle in the flower bed next to the side door of my house for concrete shoes.

First, though, I attached the hose to the spout on the side of the 16', 1200 gallon pool in our driveway that, over the course of the last few weeks, had turned into an interesting combination of algae farm and science experiment, and began draining it out to the end of the driveway. By the time Posi and I went out to Big!Lots a few hours later, the stream of water reached all the way down the street and to the storm drain at the end of the block. Fun! I've always been fascinated by water flow. I used to dig huge waterways at the beach when I was younger and endlessly fill buckets of water to pour in the top and watch course down the channels.

While I was doing that, [livejournal.com profile] posicat showed up in the catmobile. He kept me company while I savagely cut and chopped at the eight foot tall weeds and small trees that had grown in the garden bed over the last couple of years. I did some trimming of the dirt strip on the other side of the driveway too, next to the fence separating me from the house that belongs to the guy who works in the same building as me. Things are a lot better out there. I have a large mound of vegetation that I push-broomed up against the house to deal with, and I still need to attack the backyard; it's seriously out of control. I also have to scrub out the bottom of the pool with some diluted bleach. Not sure if I can get to any of that before next week though.

After working on the plants, Posi and I, as noted, went out to Big!Lots where I picked up a rake (to pull the downed vegetation out of the garden beds and yard), and a roll of carpet to put inside the front door so the carpet doesn't get so bad. I also got a recirculating water reservoir for the cat to drink from. It's a nifty little thing that has a charcoal filter and keeps the water fresh and tasty. As predicted, Sabrina appears to be afraid of it. I'll give her a little while to see if she decides she likes it and, if not, I'll give it to Posi whose cats will probably appreciate it.

After having some pizza; Posi showed off the car computer. All I can say about a Linux-based system that lets you surf the internet on a laptop via a cell phone on the dashboard or in your pocket, see a graphical representation of your travels via a GPS receiver mounted in your dashboard, and view an MP3 play list and change songs without ever touching the car computer itself is 'awesome'.

And now, some random tidbits.

I worked on sorting out more pictures on the way home yesterday. I have most of the ones I want to use in my post about the theatre done. That will probably go up today or tomorrow.

I dropped off Andrea's car at the mechanic to have the brakes done today and left my hair tie in it. I had to go to work with my hair down because Walgreens doesn't open 'till nine. I ran out a couple hours ago to pick one up. Until then, I was holding my hair back with a twist-tie. Is that more or less dorky than soldering your glasses together?

A server that was decommissioned a month ago and that I scavenged the Rambus from is now being looked for by the server team. We got rid of it because the only documentation of its existence was a sticky note on it that said "In use by (person who hasn't been with my company for a month)" and a date in 2004. Apparently it was hosting something or other that nobody noticed was down for a month. Oops. I may have to bring my Rambus back. *sigh*

Andrea and I are looking at job openings nearer to home for me. I'm going to work on my resume with her while we're driving and might just apply to a few things that sound good, including one company based right on Green Bay Road in Kenosha. That would be cool. A job half an hour closer to home would save me over 250 hours of on-the-road time a year. That's a lot of vacation.

I guess that's about it for now. Watch this space.
