(no subject)
Nov. 6th, 2007 11:07 amIn light of hearing on NPR that oil is up over ninety dollars a gallon barrel (yes, I meant barrel; typing while tired, I hear, is as bad or worse than typing while drunk), I looked at a couple peak oil related discussion sites and blogs again. It's been a while since I've read much on the subject, so I thought I'd get caught up with what people are saying now.
In a brief look at a couple of places, one has indicated that the world production of oil has peaked already; July of 2006. I haven't looked at actual figures yet (or what varients thereof exist out there), but should that be the case, it wouldn't hit me as unexpected. Whether that's happened already or not, even more relevant is that I suspect global demand for oil will soon surpass (if it hasn't already) global supply, with the booming demand that China and other industrializing powers are building.
Gas is going up again. The housing market has imploded. The dollar is dropping against currencies that belong to countries that still have real industry. All things that I've been concerned about for a while, and it comes closer.
It's another reason I need to look for a job closer to home. I need to reduce my gas consumption. I want to help with
farm_cat's farm too and contribute to local production of food and local economy. I want to somehow be prepared for a possible future where gasoline is not so easily obtainable. Nor should it be. Far too much of the stuff gets used that doesn't need to be.
