Andrea and I picked out new frames for me today. They're copper instead of my usual black, though I've once again gone with the half-rim style that only go over the top half the lenses. Andrea says that they bring out the green in my eyes, which I agree with, and that with the right ensemble, they could look kind of steampunk. That remains to be seen, though far be it from me to argue with the costuming 'coonie. Somehow, and I think it's the color, I feel like a look a little grandfatherly when I push them down my nose and look over them, instead of, well, kind of sexy, when I did that with my black frames. But Andrea disagrees, and I guess I'll trust her on that, even if she may be biased. *grins*

Unfortunately, my insurance covers new frames only every two years, so I'm paying nearly full prices. I'm grateful to the store staff who, upon finding that the full claim wouldn't go through, suggested I call them directly to ask about other benefits. If not for that, I wouldn't have managed a 20% discount on them. Still, they're going to be pricy since my prescription is strong enough that I need high refractive index plastic to avoid having pop-bottle lenses. Since I'm not going for the mad-scientist look, and since I'm going to be wearing these things for at least another year (barring unforeseen disaster), I guess I'll pay a little extra. The cheapest frames were only cheaper than mine by about a third, and very few of them were thick enough that I could get away with not using the high index lenses in them.

Beyond that, I'm going on Monday to be paying for the crown that my dentist is finishing up with that morning (I have a 7:30 appointment and am working through lunch [as if I don't normally do that anyway] to cover the time). That plus the extraction of the wisdom tooth set me back about three times the cost of the glasses. Having recieved my benefits explanation from that insurance company, and seeing how much I didn't have to pay, I can only note that dental work is like-woah expensive. Oof.

But I think that [livejournal.com profile] moiracoon and I will still be able to get together our Christmas gift to my family: we announced to them that our gift is going to be take them to the Wisconsin Dells for a weekend. Now, the last time my family all went on a vacation together, I'm not sure if I was even in high school yet (we weren't able to do that sort of thing much), so I don't plan to let anything get in the way of this one. Speaking of such things, I better give them a call before [livejournal.com profile] mocha_mephooki shows up tonight and see if we can get together tomorrow to talk scheduling.

*winces* I hope my stomach settles down before Andrea's lovely pasta dinner. My body has just been off lately. I'm worried that the pizza I ate last night might have been a little undercooked, or maybe the crab meat I added on top was too old. Or it's just remnants from whatever bug hit me on Wednesday. *grumps* Settle down down there!
