stormdogI was woken up by lightning this morning! Not the thunder, but the flashes of light coming through the blinds into the bedroom. As soon as I realized it wasn't an exploding transformer or invading aliens, I was thrilled! The first storm of the year makes me all silly-happy. I'm so glad we're about done with snow. I want to go play in the rain! I'd love to go up to that nude beach by Madison with Andrea some weekend when there'll be showers and dance around naked in the rain. *bounce*
Juan and I checked out the Suzuki in Milwaukee on Friday. Mechancially it was in really good shape, but it had the rust on the frame right where Juan warned me about. He thought it would only be good for another year or two at best before having possible problems withe the frame bending or breaking. I thought about it, and even called back on Saturday morning, but when I didn't get a call back, I decided I wasn't going to pursue it. Juan thinks I can find something better for less.
I have to admit, though, that as stressed out as I get about buying a used car independantly, I'm thinking about going with a place like Carmax. I know it will be pricier, but my mom got a car from there and it's been really good to her. Juan agreed that, if you don't mind trading more money for an easier transaction and the possibility of a warranty, it can make sense to buy from there. I'm not going to commit to anything quite yet, but there are a few things on their site like Honda Civics, Chevy Aveos, and Toyota Echos that I'd be happy to have for the mileage they get. Andrea and I are going to go over there Tuesday after work and see what kind of financing we could get. I'd hate to have a car payment again, but we'll see how it goes. In the meantime I'm going to keep cruising Craig's List too. Juan says he's happy to go look at more with me.
Speaking of Juan, he's dropping by tonight to pick up a couple of laptops that I'm going lend him for a couple weeks for a project that he's working on with a couple of school mates. I was just getting them ready for sale on Ebay, so the timing worked out well and I'm just really happy I was able to offer something useful in return for all his help. He dropped by yesterday afternoon to ask, and we looked at my grandfather's welder in the garage and I showed him all the memory I'm going to use to make my armor and we talked about random tech and car stuff for a while. He was there late enough that I offered him some of the wonderful Gulyas that Andrea made and he had dinner with us. I hope I get to see more of him; he's a lot of fun to hang around with. He says he'll teach me to weld too, so maybe I'll do that this summer.

moiracoon is a wonderful cook and I'm simply lucky to be the beneficiary of her gifts. She's been looking at some Hungarian recipes that her dad used to make and decided to make a nice gulyas with homemade dumplings and lots of paprika. Yummy! On top of that, she made some hummus for me. I love hummus and really miss the fact that, in the Detroit area, you could easily find good hummus nearly anywhere. Even convenience stores tended to have one or two varieties. Not so much here.
Going to Midwest Gaming Classic with my sweetie andmocha_mephooki was lots of fun, but I think I'll write about that in another entry, maybe after I've had time to process my pictures from the event. *bounce*
Forjojomojo and spnkygrl, I will try and email you with some specs on the laptops that I have about. I got through checking out and labeling most of them on Sunday.
