I got up early this morning so I could ride my bike to work. I had a leisurely breakfast in the hotel lobby (bacon, English muffins, cream cheese; yes, all together; mmmmmmm), walked out to the car, got my bike out, and pedaled the mile or so to the training center.

And, as I was waiting to cross 22nd to the building, I realized that I'd left my laptop bag sitting in back of my car. Oops! Pedaled hastily back and picked it up, then took the car back. With AC on full blast. The ride there was slow-paced, but riding back I worked up quite a sweat. Thoughts of your laptop being stolen are quite motivational! I'll bike again tomorrow though.

I also realized, after I got to class, that I'd forgotten my books and stuff. I had them scattered about as I was working last night and totally blanked on packing them into my bag in the morning. Oops! Back to the hotel again.

I didn't miss too much, fortunately. The instructor was working on having a couple things printed prior to starting lessons and we started a little bit late. I'm relieved, since I made it back in time for subnetting.

And wow, do I get it now! We have this nifty little chart that shows all kinds of relevant info for subnet masks from /17 through /32 (though, really, /31 and /32 are pretty pointless) that makes figuring out subnets about twenty times as fast. It's also a wonderful tool to build on the knowledge I already had on doing these and it's helping me cement all the theory nicely in my brain. I don't think I'm going to have any problems, time-wise or ability-wise on subnetting problems on the test. I just have to make sure I have things like what operates on layer four vs. layer three of the OSI network model. Ok, it goes from a packet to a frame to a segment how again? *giggles* Oh yeah, and there are those port things to think about too....
