Nov. 8th, 2008 03:08 pmI'm puttering around the workshop today. I was hitherto unaware that one could 'putter' until having passed the age of 30. I guess I'm close enough at this point.
I've got a laptop and a desktop doing DoD compliant HDD wipes (courtesy of Darik's Boot and Nuke) and am installing XP on a second desktop to bring over to my parents' house for a friend of my brother's to use so he doesn't keep using my mom's laptop. (Desktops are inconvenient to sell, so I'm going to put a few on Craig's List, but I'm not going to worry too much about giving some away too.) I'm also working on catching up on Quicken so I can pay some bills. I finally got my check for my insurance deductible, so I need to send it to Capital One to cover a bit more of the debt on the Aveo.
And, between all that, I'm playing with my new hair toy. On the way home yesterday, I stopped at Sally Beauty Supply and picked up a set of hair shears; a pair by Arius-Eickert that was on sale. They come highly recommended by some of the long hair sites.
So, I'm using my shiny new hair scissors and going through all of my hair, little by little, and trimming off all the bits that are split, kinked, stretched, or otherwise damaged. It looks a little better already and is less prone to tangling.
I'm also going to work harder and not damaging it by sitting on it between my back and the chair or under my laptop bag, and I need to get some scrunchies so I can stop using the little elastics to put it in a tail. I was using scrunchies exclusively for a while, but I slipped. I'm hesitantly hopeful that if I start minimizing the few damaging things I still do and am careful to trip splits on a regular basis, that it will look better at the ends, and maybe, if I cross my fingers, even get longer.
And finally, I'm listening to some Blind Melon. It's funny; as I listed to Change, I kept thinking of the Obama campaign, and not just because of the title.
