Today was a practical lesson on how much longer things take than you think they will.
We were converting the furnace for the casting setup at work to use liquid propane instead of natural gas, since it's going to be moving to a place without a gas line. Possibly my garage, but more on that when and if it occurrs. Anyway, this is about a one hour job. One hour, that is, for people who have done this before and are reasonably proficient. Perhaps five hours and three trips to the hardware store (in the middle of rush hour) later, we stopped for the night and plan to finish up in the morning.
We are almost done. Just have to take apart the pilot burner and tighten some fittings so the threas sealant tape stops catching on fire. Have to adjust the pilot too, since it seems to be aimed to high to ignite the main burner quickly enough. When it caught the first time, an impressive gout of flame shot out from the cauldron... But we were getting tired. Bad idea to work with burny stuff when tired.
In other news, I picked up one of these at Goodwill for $20. Not bad for a speaker system that orginally retailed at $250. I'm trying to decide whether to keep it or E-bay it. I'm leaning toward reselling it 'cause I already have speakers, and money would be good. Plus they aren't the greatest speakers in the world, despite what the review says. The highs are crystal clear, but the mid-range seems a little mushy to me, which doesn't surprise me from such a small speaker set. Still, the bass on that sub-woofer is really impressive and they're old so I'm not sure how much they'd fetch on E-bay... *waffles*
