Have you heard enough about my car yet?
May. 7th, 2009 12:20 pmSince
moiracoon's KIA needs a wheel bearing, I had her drive my car to to work a couple times this week (I rode with
serinthia). Unfortunately, my car is acting up more and she's gone back to hers. (She says the wheel isn't getting crazy-hot or anything, so hopefully it'll be ok 'till Juan can do the bearing.)
As for Igor, he's giving me error codes for upstream O2 sensor, and a misfire in one cylinder. He's also gone back to running as rough, or rougher, than before we fixed the crankshaft sensor, though he's not flat out stalling. I think the two issues are unrelated, though the symptoms are similar. I'm going to check the plugs tonight since Moira will be out anyway. My random speculation today is that, even though the wires tested ok for resistance, maybe one of them has a break that was exaggerated by me removing and testing them. I think I'll do continuity testing on them while twisting them around and see if I can find a short.
Beyond that, I really hope missing oil on top of a cylinder misfire doesn't mean a bad head gasket. Maybe I'll have to beg or borrow a compression gauge. The oil's been staying up since I filled it though. And I've looked for signs of burning oil in the exhaust without success, much to my happiness. In the meantime, the car seems to run just fine when I'm cruising, it's just giving me grief when idling or accelerating. So at present, I'm still driving it to work.
By the way, I just posted a bunch of pictures to my Flickr account from a hotel in Gary. In fact, two of them were selected for inclusion in a Northwest Indiana photo group! *bounces* I'll have a post in LJ sooner or later with at least some of those pictures for those who want to see an abandoned Sheraton with a cool open-air pool.
