Jul. 19th, 2009 10:01 amI have several more pictures of the Quincy Smelter and surrounds, as well as the Pacific and Northwest steam locomotive that sits abandoned and rotting on a siding next to it. You can see them on my Flickr page if you'd like, but for LJ, I'll move on to the site of Quincy Mining Company's number two shaft.

This is one of a handful of remaining buildings at the site of the Quincy No.2 mine shaft, just northeast of Hancock in Michigan's Keweenau peninsula. Most buildings around mines at the time this set of them was built were made from poor rock, rock containing little or no copper, retrieved from the mines. A little brickwork adds some ornamentation.
