This is my favorite piece of public art I've ever seen. Hands down. I just loved it from the moment I laid eyes on it.

Forms In Transit - Sculpture at Flushing Meadows Park

This is Forms In Transit, created by Theodore Roszak for the 1964-65 World's Fair in Queens, New York.

To me, this is the golden age of sci-fi, the exuberant optimism of the height of the space age, and timeless retro-futurism all rolled into one. I adore it.

I'd love nothing more than to come back here and use my 50mm prime wide-open to shoot this piece, and turn the background into a smooth, creamy blur; just the sculpture and it's pedestal and the bush in sharp focus. Ah well; I was in a hurry trying to see everything, and that's ok. (Oh, that's Arthur Ashe stadium in the background where the US Open is held.)

==============

Despite feeling icky yesterday, I washed my laundry, cleaned the cat-boxes, caught up on the budget (as well as recalculating all the sums to take into account the changed income [livejournal.com profile] moiracoon has due to being unemployed) and went out to buy dinner for the 'coonie, since she wasn't feeling so good either. Go-go workin' dog!

Tonight, once I get home, I'm going to try and catch up on paying all the bills and writing my cursed check for my student loan that I keep managing to forget to send on time because they won't let me manage my account with them online (which would let me keep up with it better) because if I haven't been on time with it five months in a row, I can't have internet access. Yes, it's my own fault for not getting it on time, but really; why make it harder for people to use tools that would make it easier to give them money?

I'm soooo tired today. But I was still up to walking over to meet [livejournal.com profile] rileybear67 for lunch near her place of employment. We walked to a Subway for food and I enjoyed seeing the architecture of the Wrigley Building and the Tribune Tower again (not to mention some very pleasant company!). I love this city!
