Oct. 23rd, 2009 11:16 amFor our Thursday date night, Moira and I were originally going to go see Where the Wild Things Are at The Dunes in Zion. But, and I feel kind of bad saying this, I'm not really all that excited about the movie. I listened to an interview on NPR with the director, and it all sounded pretty great as far as the buy-in he got from the author and staying true to the feel of the book. It sounds like a neat movie. But I just don't have much interest in seeing it. I felt the same way about The Golden Compass; both in not being all that interested, and feeling like I'm somehow out of the loop, or unsophisticated for not wanting to rush out and see it. I think part of it is that I've never really been all that into movies, and seeing them in a theatre as opposed to at home isn't that big a deal to me.
But anyway, I suggested we go thrifting and take a trip to Big!Lots instead. It was a fun little trip to Racine and we just drove and chatted. We didn't find much at Big!Lots, but at the thrift store, I picked up a few things. I found Melissa Ethridge's Yes I Am, the Indigo Girls' Swamp Ophelia, and Modest Mouse's We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. I'm listening to the last of the trio right now, and
savant_da_rat is right; though I didn't really care for most of Good News For People Who Love Bad News, I rather like this one.
I also picked up a copy of the PS2 Rock Band Track Pack Volume II. I saw it there a while ago and didn't buy it because the living room was a mess and I hadn't played Rock Band in months. This time though, having just cleaned the living room and done some drumming, I figured it was worth picking up. In strange coincidence, Duran Duran's Rio is on it. In the car, on the way there, I had asked Moira if her car, a KIA Rio had a name. She said its name was Rio, and she sang a snatch of Rio for me, which I'd never heard of. Funny how these things happen sometimes. I passed on both of the PS2 DDR games that I don't already own, since I haven't played DDR in a long time and don't have it set up. If I get the basement clean and have room to play, and the games are still there, maybe I'll grab 'em then. In the meantime, if anyone is looking for PS2 DDR games, check out the Goodwill in Racine.
When the two of us got home, we sat on the couch and watched a movie Moira'd borrowed from the library; The Big Empty. I don't quite understand the end, but I did rather like it.
Oh, a note for
custardfairy and
jojomojo; we were also watching Youtube videos yesterday and found this one. We decided that Jerry Garcia looks oddly familar in this video. Look like anybody you know?
And finally, a picture from the trip to the Dells this past weekend. I have several pictures illustrating the great state of Wisconsin's disturbing penchant for giant fiberglass animals, but I want to find one with Moira in it that she likes first. Instead, here's Dorothy's house, dropped into a farm field in the middle of Wisconsin, not in Kansas as we'd been previously lead to believe. I would have liked to get closer and put the first rows of the corn field at the bottom of the frame, but the fence prevented me. Oh well.
