I keep collecting more books while I'm out in Detroit. And then I keep bringing 'em back here which, seeing as how they're all going back there with me again in a few weeks, is kind of funny...

[livejournal.com profile] wooisme and I did a bunch of thrifting, resulting in said acquisitons. In fact, going to thrift stores took up a good portion of our day on Saturday and Sunday. I wonder how many people would find that incredibly boring? For me, it's something I've wished to be able to share with someone for a long time, and I had a hugely good time.

Saturday night we went out to a little movie theatre I'd noticed as we were driving for a midnight showing of 'The Princess Bride'. It was a simply wonderful experience. Our fellow audience members seemed overwhelmingly to be 'our' people, and I felt very at home in the pleasant little theatre watching a mushy movie with my beloved. We have so many times together that are just magic, and that was one of them. She is magic.

Another while on Saturday was spent staring in awe (at least, I was in awe. Andrea's seen if before) at the Michigan Central Station. My raccoon, knowing my fascination with old and/or abondoned buildings, directed me to the street in front of the old railroad terminal, where we spent perhaps half an hour looking at it through the eight foor, razor wire topped fence that's been erected around it. Take a look at more infomration about it here if you're so inclined. It's a truly beautiful piece of history, and I'm vastly tempted to attempt to gain entry someday. There are so many fascinating ruins in Detroit! And Andrea actually appreciates them like I do, even if she's quite sensibly hesitant about actually going inside of them. How did I get so lucky?

I also learned on Sunday night that something I wrote in my journal a way back has been terribly hurtful. At the risk of being terse, I have simply learned an important lesson about writing about some thing in too vague a manner. *sigh* It is frightening to me that I could have written something that so deeply affected my dear one and not even known about it. It's something that will probably be in my mind every time I update this space...

Monday morning, we got up very early to pack up since Andrea needed to be at work that morning. I soon discovered, after getting all my stuff outside to my car, that I had locked myself out of it. I piled all of my stuff on the trunk, helped Andrea load up her car, and called a locksmith. We said goodbye and she left for work as I sat in the parking lot reading a book and waiting. It didn't take too long for the guy to show up and jimmy the lock with this nifty little piece of bent wire that I'm very tempted to try to duplicate before I was on my way.

I stopped at the chapter of the electrical worker's union in Warren and picked up an application. Of course, I found out today that it won't do me any good to apply until I'm actually a resident of the area. *shrug* At least I tried... Afterward I hit a thrift store, then met up with my sweetie for lunch. We ate at the Taco Bell (the fabulous Mexican restaraunt we ate at twice in Detroit may have spoiled me) near where she works, looked over my application, and talked about job and resume stuff. She's in a great position to help me find somthing through her many contacts at work. Then came the tearful farewill once more in the parking lot outside of the trade exchange. I miss her tremendously in the days immediately following our visits... Then I stopped at John King books north and picked up a couple more volumes and hit yet another thrift store on my way down into Detroit toward I-94. At the thrift store, I succeeded both in finding three books to buy and in realizing that, while by no means on the order of Michael Jackson neon-shiny, I am white. I am really, really white. Heh.

Thank you for another wonderful weekend, my beloved...
