Apr. 28th, 2010 03:43 pmLife has been full-to-bursting with the move. We have until the end of Thursday to have all of our stuff out of the house. We are well on the way and I see no barrier to getting it done. But it's taken a lot of work, especially on the part of the lovely
moiracoon, who has been working long and very hard hours at the task. Thank you so much for all your work sweetie.
Thanks too to
mocha_mephooki for his frequent invaluable help at the house this past week and to both he and
posicat for pitching in to drag numerous large bookcases, a king size bed, a chest freezer, and more down from the upstairs or up from the basement and out to a moving truck or the curb. You've both been wonderful and I am in your debt.
I made it down to Chicago, near Chinatown, to pick up the disassembled wooden parts of a loft bed this past Sunday. I love it so much and can't wait to set it up! This is real quality work; the two-by-fours that act as mattress slats are real two-by-fours. Having seen it in person, I understand why it's as expensive a piece of furniture as it is, and am more grateful to
synicism for having found it cheap on Craig's List; without that, I would have had to go with something cheaper and probably not as nice. I'm hoping to enlist the raccoon's help to stain it at some point too. I've never stained wood.
I have a big box full of dead laptops (with just a few that are actually in working order) that I'm going to be prepping and selling on Ebay. If you're interested in an HP NX9600, or a TC-1000 or TC-1100 tablet, please let me know. You should be able to find specs by Googling. The 9600 is big, with a full keyboard and numberpad and a big widescreen LCD.
samiitiger, the TC1000 is still yours if you want it, but I have to get this stuff out of the way soon.
This Sunday, there's a photo project that I'm going to go take part in with
synicism, somewhere in Chicago. That should be fun. Primarily, I'm just looking forward to a weekend not jammed full of boxing and bagging things and trying to find things that were inadvertently swept up in said processes.
And last but not least, I got a call back from the recruiter for the network analyst job in Racine. I'm crossing my fingers; I think it's something I'd be very happy doing, assuming I can do well at the upcoming interview (maybe phone, maybe in person) and I'm qualified.
Tonight, as soon as five o' clock rolls around, I'm off to help pack up the remaining stuff in the house and then probably convoy back and forth to Goodwill a few times.

Have I posted this one before? I forget.
Mid-level Corridor - Abandoned Gary, Indiana Hotel

© Stormdog 2009
This is one of the mid-level floors of an abandoned hotel in Gary, Indiana. The path going into the frame slightly right of center is, I'm pretty sure, the corridor between all the rooms. I like the composition of this one. I find that I really like to put some element in the foreground that repeats off into the background; in this case, the plumbing from the now non-existent bathrooms.
The pillars work for that purpose too, though they start a little too far in. I couldn't make one look quite right at either side of the frame, so I left the nearest ones out. There are some good diagonal lines coming in from near the corners that add to the sense of perspective.
Thanks too to
