Apr. 30th, 2010 09:27 amNext up on the block (sorry to spam Livejournal today), I am selling two (count them, two!) sets of drums.
First is a neat vintage Pearl set from, I was told by the original buyer, the late '70s. The skin on them is a gorgeous metallic blue tiger stripe. I love, love, love them, and wish I had room to keep them. Sadly, I've never even actually played them. It's a three piece kit with kick drum, floor tom, and a single mounted tom. Kick pedal is included, as is a cymbal (a ride) and a high-hat stand (but no high hat cymbals). Snare drum *not* included with these I'm afraid as I didn't get one. The skin on one of the drums is slightly torn. I've talked to a drum repair shop and it sounds like you can't get any more of this skin. He said the best thing to do with it is just superglue it down to the shell as best you can. It's one small tear, and probably not too noticeable, especially after gluing. These have neat faux-leather gig-bags to zip them up into too.
I paid, I think, $200 for these and am asking the same. I'm going to get these on Craig's List this weekend, but you have first shot!
------
Second, I have a cheaper, but five-piece, kit from a no-name maker (Percussion Star I think, or something like that). It's a kick drum and pedal, a floor tom, two mounted toms plus mounting hardware, and snare drum. High hat stand included (no high hat cymbals) and a few other, questionable-quality cymbals (with no stands) also included. I got them from somebody on Craig's List and never got stands. The toms are all missing the mounting rings for the lower (resonant) heads. (These are the heads that cover the bottom opening of the drum and resonate when you strike the top (batter) heads with drum sticks. They add a certain quality to the sound. They still sound like drums without them, and the person I bought them from said he took them off on purpose to make the sounds 'fatter', but couldn't find the rings now.) They were missing when I bought 'em. These are all gloss black finish (minus the chrome snare drum) and are the set I had set up in the basement to mess around with.
I'm not a drum connoisseur, but I can tell you that they make a lot of noise and sounded ok to me! They'd be a really great starter set for someone who's not sure if they want to spend a lot on something they might not really get into (like me when I bought them). From a friend, or friend of a friend, I'll take a hundred bucks for them. I'll ask for a little more on Craig's List. Know anybody who wants to start playing the drums?
