May. 15th, 2010 09:18 pmI forgot to say how much fun I had exploring with Moira a little while ago. We drove out to a building that she thought looks like it used to be a railroad hotel. This is in Sturtevant, right by the rail line. We stopped in the parking lot and walked around a bit, looking at the neat turret-like things that stuck out from the second floor in various places and the sign that was so old there was barely a hint of the letters that used to be on it. Looks like some folks are rehabbing it though!
Then we went across the street to a small display of some old rolling stock that, we learned as we walked around, is a small exhibit of some kind that's open during the days in the summer. You can walk inside the cars and look around. There are some signs with information about the history of the railroad in Sturtevant (It was quite the happening city once upon a time!), and we decided we should go back later on and look inside when staff is there.
And then we stopped at the parking lot of the old hotel again so I could watch a freight train roll by! *bounces* It was a nice little trip before settling in for a movie. Raccoons know what dogs like; it's true. *nods*
Thanks sweetie; that was a lot of fun, and very thoughtful of you.
